New vintage glamour
I’m all for going back to basics and embracing simple living with hessian furnishings, unbleached cottons and shifts down at our urban allotments, BUT sometimes a bit of glitz is essential. Magpie-eye readers of ACHICA Living will be pleased to hear there’s a sparkling light at the end of the design tunnel in the form of shimmering fixtures and soft furnishings.
There’s been a shift in UK homeware trends and this season, the glamour is back. Classic lighting, fabrics and furniture, finished in sheens that look like they’ve gone ten rounds with the sugar plum fairy, in a good way, are making waves in the design industry. Soft pearl, mint, silver, pewter and bronze shades, teamed with beads, sequins and crystals create a new take on vintage glamour. Our verdict? Bring on the glitz and shine on in style.
I’ve fallen for these gorgeous nickel plated and silver furnishings from Danish design company Lisbeth Dahl. I particularly love the subtle texture of its mint and cream silver-thread cushions, which soften the look perfectly.
This beautiful polished and lacquered Torridge Chariot Bath from Drummonds has me reaching for the bath gel and turning up the radio. Bring on the bubbles!
Shimmering champagne metallics combined with sparkling sequins make up Star by Julien Macdonald at Debenhams this season – serene and sophisticated.
This gorgeous hand-beaded and wired cutlery from Also Home can be finished in either clear glass beads or green glass beads with silver wire. So precious, you won’t want to leave them lying around the garden for long…
And finally, inspired by the catwalks of Giles Deacon and Michael Kors comes Prêt à Vivre’s Nepal Silk curtains, which combines raw silk with sheer voile. What’s not to love?
