Sonia Rykiel – Home Chic Home

I’m feeling rather rebellious and punk today and it’s because I’ve just clocked SONIA RYKIEL’s MAISON collection for Lelievre, which launches next week at FOCUS. I want to banish any sign of anything too pretty and vintage, grab a tin of spray paint and grafitti my living room furniture and walls. But all I can find is a can of hairspray, and that’s not gonna do much except add some volume to the spider who’s getting cosy in the corner of the room.
Isn’t the new MAISON collection just so cool we need a new word for cool? I love the punchy pinks, purples and teals. The range, which includes ready-made curtains, cushions, throws, bean-bags and embroidered velvet wall motifs, features luxuriously seductive fabrics – velvets, epingles, silks and animal prints, all designed with the unmistakeable Rykiel touch.
The first SONIA RYKIEL boutique opened on 19 May 1968 on the Left Bank in Saint Germain-des-Pres and closed the next day due to the student riots. Known as the queen of sexy knitwear for her brazen stripes and for putting humour into her designs, Rykiel is inextricably linked with a spirit of rebellion, evident in her home collection.
I’m off to 100% Design and Tent tomorrow, which are part of London Design Festival – not sure what affect they’ll have on me…you have been warned.
