Do you have a bit of a love/hate relationship with London? I do. I love it, but it seems to hate me: always making me late, always making me mutter the unmutterable when I’m on a packed tube. But I don’t like to complain – London had me at hello. It’s great to see Barbara Coupe paying homage to London in such a bold way with her London Calling cushions (above), which are on promotion at ACHICA this week. These embroidered cushions are inspired by vintage Routemaster bus destination blinds, fastened with two silky smooth mother of pearl buttons on the reverse.
This London Map cushion is equally wonderful – inspired by a 1951 embroidery produced for the Festival Of Britain. It features iconic monuments, the Thames and famous London streets as well as London pigeons embroidered on the base to give the cushion a quirky twist.
And there’s more including this British Made cushion, inspired by the lettering on an antique grain sack. It’s backed with black hessian, fastened with a zip and filled with a duck-feather pad.
The Union Jack Cushions are equally charming and they come in my favourite blue colourway too…
Countdown to Barbara Coupe cushion candy at ACHICA, starting at 8am on Thursday 21st October 2010!
