Sometimes trends are easy to work (a Chesterfield sofa has never looked bad) and sometimes they’re impossible (that brown was once a hot colour for accessories still manages to amaze). Then there are some trends that ought to be wrong, but somehow manage to just about stay on the right side of brilliant. And this year, that trend is hot pink. Yes, it’s loud and it’s proud (pink has so many connotations), but before you go turning entire rooms into a place a flamingo could be camouflaged, have a look at our styling tips.

DO go for accents rather than block colours. A cushion here, or a lamp there is all you need to pep up an otherwise dull corner.
DO make sure it’s hot fuchsia, rather than a milky pale pastel pink. This is a look that requires commitment, and you need to display as bright a hit as possible.
DON’T stray into the territory of little girl’s bedroom – make sure your pink accessories look like high design. With strong silhouettes or elements of texture this look is very much for adults.
DO team it with more subtle colours. Balance out a fuchsia cushion with a navy one, a pink chair with a white one. Less is definitely more.
