Wegner's iconic Wishbone Chair chat

To many, Hans J Wegner (1914-2007) was the ‘master’ of the chair. A giant of Danish modern design, Wegner’s love and understanding of wood was virtually unparalleled, ensuring an innovative and prolific output and a career in which he created over 1,000 pieces and more than 500 chairs, all of which centered on a simplicity and the balance between form and function.

There is one Wegner chair that I have a certain obsession with – the CH24 chair (aka Wishbone chair or Y-chair) is by far my most coveted design classic, and I dream of the day when my dining table will be surrounded by these beauteous perches. I’m not sure exactly why I love it so much, but it might have a little something to do with its gloriously simple Scandinavian style and the natural materials it’s designed in – blond wood with a woven cord seat. Known as the Wishbone or Y-chair due to the distinctive shape of the back, it’s made from renewable, sustainable hardwoods (another plus!).

To mark the 60th anniversary of its creation, Carl Hansen & Son are celebrating the Wishbone chair with a palette of new colours – including four kinds of blue and an all new white paper cord seat. You can check out the Special Edition Blue CH24 Wishbone Chair at the Lollipoppe Shop
