Love it or loathe it, the Royal Wedding will be in full swing this Friday. Check out the ideas in our guide on how to celebrate (free Jo Malone Royal Wedding cupcake and champers anyone?) or avoid it (if you haven’t already booked the first flight out to the Svalbard Arctic and banished the bunting). Royalists, republicans and everyone in between, enjoy your long weekend…
3 ways to celebrate the Royal Wedding
1. Pamper yourself at Jo Malone
We know we don’t need to give you an excuse to go down to Jo Malone, but there’s even more reason to take a trip to its Sloane Street store this week. Its stunning Royal Wedding window has just been installed (pictured) and all week Jo Malone is offering free champers, free Royal Wedding cupcakes and free hand and arm massages. To truly get into the wedding spirit, we suggest gifting yourself with some Orange Blossom Cologne – it’s a symbol of love, fertility and commitment, making it a perennial favourite with brides. On Friday, the store is open from 12.30pm to 6pm so you can indulge to your hearts content…see you in the queue!
2. Go Mad Hatter chic
The beans have been spilled and we now know that The Middleton family will be staying at The Goring Hotel, in the heart of Belgravia, the night before the Royal Wedding. The hotel has a royal heritage and has been using Villeroy & Boch’s iconic Old Luxembourg crockery collection for a number of years so Kate may well be calming her pre-wedding nerves sipping tea from a Villeroy & Boch teacup. So, get your hands on some Villeroy & Boch tableware to celebrate in style…
Lashings of champagne, strawberries and bunting (like you don’t already have enough!) will be available at Warwick Castle as it celebrates the Royal Wedding with a spectacular Royal Garden Party on April 29 and April 30. You’ll be able to watch Kate and Wills say ‘I do’ on a large screen in beautiful surroundings. And if it’s sunny, you can don some stylish Tom Ford sunglasses (check them out at ACHICA today) and relax the day away. Guests are encouraged to bring picnics along, while tents selling Pimms, champagne, strawberries and ice cream will be available throughout the weekend. Brass and jazz bands will also be playing. Tickets are available on the day from £21 for adults and £15 for children. Click here for more info
3 ways to avoid the Royal Wedding
1. Enjoy a box set marathon: stay in bed and have a lie in!
What better way to enjoy your day off than with a lie in? The Royal Wedding takes place in the morning so at that time you could still be snoozing soundly – especially if you’ve stayed up into the small hours the night before watching a thrilling box set – try Danish drama The Killing (20 nail-biting episodes to get through) or In Treatment (Gabriel Byrne’s subtle charms will keep you hooked!). If you do wake early, then stay in bed, get yourself a cup of tea and indulge in some online shopping with your laptop – there’s some great promotions at ACHICA this weekend including Prince tennis rackets, gorgeous cashmere throws from Joshua Ellis, vintage style furniture from Mindy and more…
2. Get thee to a cinema
With everyone glued to the TV, the cinemas should be quiet, dark and empty so you can catch up on your Mark Kermode homework in peace. You can even throw popcorn at your friends without anyone moaning at you.** We suggest watching the breathtaking film Pina – a feature-length dance film in 3D, or getting tickets for Arthur (the Russell Brand version) at your local Odeon. So Arthur may not have had the best reviews, but anything is better than watching the Royal Wedding, right?
3. Take a walk on the wild side
Get away from it all and take advantage of England’s most beautiful walking routes. The Enjoy England website has a list of gorgeous walks you can do. Why not try the one-hour Tegg’s Nose walk in Cheshire, which will give you views of the stunning Macclesfield Forest. Or the Lizard Peninsula walk in Cornwall, which will keep you going for 8 hours – that’s enough time to dodge the Royal Wedding and its seemingly endless TV coverage…
**For the record, here at ACHICA Living we do not usually condone the throwing of popcorn at anytime, except on special occasions.
