Today I’ve mostly been flicking through copies of Cath Kidston’s Stitch!, Make! and Sew! books by Quadrille (they’re on promotion at ACHICA today you see). I’ve never really been into stitching as I’ve never had the patience, but the more I read and look at the original cushions, prints and bags you can make, the more satisfying a task it looks, especially when Cath Kidston offers shortcuts to creativity – for example, embroidering a cushion can takes hours, but for an instant result Cath has come up with instructions for tasks such as making this fun set of three badges featuring Stanley, a posy of flowers and two luscious cheeries (above). ‘You can stitch them in an afternoon to update a canvas bag, your denin jacket or even a cushion,’ says Cath Kidston.
Cath Kidstons top tip: These little badges make great presents for friends and family so make sure you have some spare canvas. You can stitch all three from eleven skeins of thread, and there will be plenty left over for a second and even a third set.
What also caught my eye was the idea that you can stitch your own mobile phone gadget cover. I might just have to give it a go, just to say I’ve been there, done that, stitched an iPhone 4 cover…
