'I’m always looking for new inspiration and blogs are a great resource for me. I can get lost for hours looking through the amazing images I find online. ACHICA Living is one of those blogs that is full of great resources and inspiration, so when they asked me to do a guest post I was thrilled to be able to contribute...
Favourite furniture: My Eames rocking chair. I've always loved rocking chairs since I was a little kid. This rocker is comfy and smooth. It’s also lightweight so I can move it around the house easily! I love turning out all the lights at night, putting on my headphones and mellowing out to music in it. I usually fall asleep, so that means it's working.
Favourite design piece: I have several pieces of needlework embroidery from my Grandmother, which she created in the 1970s. They beautifully remind me of where I come from. My grandmother was a prolific artist and craftswoman, as is my Mom. It’s nice to see the history of creative passion play out from woman to woman in my family. It adds a great deal of meaning to everything I do.
Favourite designer of all time: I really admire anybody that picks up the tools and does the work. Honestly, it’s such a personal experience. Through having this creative business I’ve been able to meet so many fantastic artists and become friends with them. I gain so much from being with them and sharing our creative stories. I'm continually blown away by all the talent. It feels wonderful to see other people's passion in action.
I can easily hone in on one individual who never ceases to amaze me….my husband David. He is a massive talent and is always so available and down to earth. He’s an incredible designer, photographer, writer, musician and artist and posses a real passion for it all. I'm one lucky girl to share this life with him.
Favourite project I’ve worked on: I’m just putting the final touches on a new fabric collection and I’m thrilled with how it's turning out. Working on new collections gives me a real creative high. I love every minute of it.
Favourite way to spend the weekend: I love my low-key weekends at home because I do travel quite a bit and the weeks are busy. I enjoy hanging out with Dave and the cats, going antiquing, working in the garden or making a fresh home cooked meal. Our home is a very soothing place to be and with the right rituals, I can ground myself pretty quickly.
Favourite city: As far as big cities, I always love visiting New York, but London has stolen my heart, I feel I could easily live there. I get a real sense of the city being a collection of small communities with a very 'neighborhoody' vibe. I love the gardens (The Hempel Hotel garden, below), the architecture and the entire lifestyle. I recently spent a few days in town with some 'locals' and was able to experience a whole new side of this lovely place… it was amazing and I came home with some great finds!
Favourite hotel: I do love Whatley Manor in England (below). The gardens and the service are wonderful. David surprised me with a stay at the Viceroy Bali hotel in Ubud and that was the most breathtaking view I’ve ever experienced -looking out into a huge rainforest valley!
Favourite design/fashion event: Regularly checking the racks at my local vintage clothing store for unique one of kind finds! I love the spicy boost a gorgeous new treasure gives me whether it’s an elegant dress or a colorful scarf…the thrill of the hunt is a great creative outlet for me. I also enjoy having something in my wardrobe that’s exclusive and ‘very Amy’.'
