Interiors has been having its very own stag party for a while now. It started, innocently enough, with a couple of ironic deer heads, mounted on the wall, just for the fun of it. They were fake, of course – there’s no way any of the stylists who thought they were cool would ever have ventured anywhere wilder than Hoxton on a Friday night. Then Graham and Green started selling them, followed by M&S, and suddenly every home in every mag was replete with its very own set of venison horns adorning the walls. Who killed Bambi? By the looks of it, everybody. But the look hasn’t gone away entirely – the new way to play the game (geddit? Game? Oh, never mind) is to feature the deer as a motif, in much the same way as birds were last season’s biggest design. It’s rustic, without having to set foot beyond your local high street, or deal with not having any phone reception when you’re in the middle of a forest. And without having to spend too many bucks (geddit? Don’t worry, I give up).
