Pop the book 50 Bags That Changed the World in your handbag…

50 Bags That Changed the World: what an impressively bold title for a book. I've just been flicking through this Design Museum tome, which is in the Octopus Publishing promotion at ACHICA, and it really is a fun and fascinating read. From the 1860's attaché case to Vivienne Westwood’s 2010 bowling bag, 50 bags That Changed the World tracks the history of an accessory that is versatile in design and 'says more about the wearer than any other'. The book doesn't just focus on style, it goes into detail about function too showcasing designs such as Gladstone's iconic 1860's budget box that has been used by dozens of British Chancellors of the Exchequer since. I'm not suggesting you make it your next style accessory, but then again it is actually rather cool...Here's a sneaky peek of other iconic bags featured in the book:

Actress Mia Farrow sporting a 2.55 Coco Chanel bag...

I love the effortless cool of the 1970's Adidas bag...

*Stands up* I admit to queuing up outside the Anya Hindmarch store when her limited edition 'I'm not a plastic bag' bags came out in 2007...

Even on a dreary wet day, this Emilio Pucci Cocktail bag from the late 1960s would always make people smile. Don't you think?
