Ciao ciao chocolate! Hello Jason Vale's 7-day juice detox

After all the chocolate binging at the weekend, I feel it’s time to detox after the retox with a fresh Juice Master juice. Did I really need to bite the ears off that third chocolate bunny? It appears so…If, like me, you’re looking for an eye-brightening energy boost, I really do recommend juicing as a solution. I’d never been interested in juicing as a concept until the beginning of this year when I decided to try the Juice Master 7-Day detox plan by juicing expert Jason Vale.

I half expected to give up after a day or so, but using the Philips Avance whole-fruit juicer and stocking up on fruit and vegetables well in advance (so I didn’t run out of fresh produce) made the process easy and actually quite fun. I used small flasks to make up the juices for when I was out and about and even lost 8lbs after the week was up – s’true.

It’s also true that I found 4 of those 8lbs rather too eagerly once I’d finished the detox. I also found many people eager to dismiss the plan as a gimmick. But, what the juice detox did do was a) make me feel great, b) make me more aware of what I was putting into my body, and c) introduce me to new vegetables and fruits I never knew could taste so good. Who knew kale, spirulina, spinach and a Granny Smith could be so yummy juiced together? It didn’t look that appetising, but it did taste delicious. Now whenever I’m feeling lethargic I use whatever fresh fruit and vegetables are in my fridge and get juicing  - it’s quite liberating to be so confident and adventurous and make up recipes!

On the 7-day plan the basics were as follows – I had a mint or lemon tea at 7am and then various juices throughout the day such as Super Detox Juice and Passion for Juice Master (recipe below). It’s not recommended that you continue with the intense 7-day detox plan after 7 days, but it’s a great way to kick-start your energy levels and boost your immune system with fresh nutrients. Juicing as part of a healthy diet is a great idea though. If you’re curious, try the Passion for Juice Master (recipe below) and let me know what you think? It really does taste rather nice. I’m off to make one myself – I just hope I can ignore the rest of that chocolate bunny that’s staring at me from the kitchen worktop…

Jason Vale’s Passion for Juice Master recipe

Ingredients

1/4 small pineapple – you can juice with the skin on, but give it a very good wash

1 apple

1/4 banana

200g natural organic yoghurt – if you’re a vegan, then simply use soya yoghurt

1/2 teaspoon of spirulina

Method

Juice the pineapple and apple. Pour into a blender along with the banana, yoghurt and spirulina. Blend until smooth. Drink over ice.

Hot and Spicy recipe

A great way to satisfy any late night cravings is with a Hot and Spicy juice drink (pictured below). I have this quite regularly when I’m in the mood for something sweet a little while after dinner. Simply juice 3 apples and pour into a saucepan. Heat slowly – do not boil. Add a pinch of cinnamon and enjoy warm.
