Garden-loving celebrities spotted at the 2012 RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Chelsea Football Club may have lit up west London at the weekend, but it’s the 2012 RHS Chelsea Flower Show in the spotlight this week. Each year, on press day, a host of celebrities go to the show to mingle and admire the beautiful gardens and yesterday they were out in full force. ACHICA Living took a trip down to the show to look for some great garden ideas to report back here on the blog and while our resident garden expert Zia Allaway was checking out the fab flowers and show gardens, photographer Brian North and I took the opportunity to check out the ‘slebs. (Superficial you say? Perhaps, but who wouldn’t have done the same?). So, here’s a cheeky run down of some of the garden-loving peeps we papped at the show…

Above and below: Ringo Starr at the Herbert Smith Garden for Wateraid. Passionate gardener Ringo Starr told us that he had a vegetable ‘patch’ in his garden. When asked what type of gardener he is he said he was a ‘pointer’: ‘I want that there and this there!’ Haha.

Garden designers Joe Swift (who designed this year’s Homebase Teenage Cancer Trust Garden) and James Alexander Sinclair share a joke…

I was super excited (with a side order of star struck) to meet one of my all-time favourite designers Matthew Williamson mingling from show garden to show garden…

It was simply ‘Nuts in May’ to see the legendary Alison Steadman having a wander around the garden displays…

Cliff Richard, who lives in Barbados, was supporting the Barbados Tourist Board flower display. He loved the Graptophyllum flower shown here so much he asked for a cutting for his own home…

Jasper Conran was spotted in The Great Pavilion tent picking out flowers he liked, but he wouldn’t let on about which show garden was his favourite – although I tried to prize it out of him, he ‘wasn’t falling for that one’!

Welsh comedian and actor Rob Brydon is shown here holding up Pot Art, while Piers Morgan, Nick Knowles with resident Chelsea Pensioner and Martin Clunes were also spotted enjoying the show…

When asked whether he actually likes gardening himself, actor Roger Daltrey CBE quipped that he prefers looking at the gardens! Pictured here at the Homebase Teenage Cancer Trust Garden, designed by Joe Swift…

And last, but by no means least, a great treat was bumping into the wonderful Orla Kiely who had designed her artisan cabin. And, after all that celeb spotting it was just the place to rest our feet…
