We’ve all heard the saying ‘take the easy way out’ – obviously that’s not a mantra to live by, but when it comes to making your rooms look fabulous, sometimes it really is OK to take the simple option. Here are a few quick and easy tricks you might like to play around with in your pad…
For your first trick, use scale rather than colour for room scheme success. When you’re working with a muted palette, sometimes the resulting interiors can become so understated they’re apologetic. Pick a soft shade but a confidently sized design and you can make an impact without bolds, as this wallpaper from Eijffinger’s CHIC collection, from Blendworth, shows.
For your second trick, double the impact. Mirrors aren’t just good for making the room appear bigger, bringing light to a space and checking your lippy before you go out. Reflecting your home’s best assets (whether they’re lovely period features or your own buys) in a mirror means you get the benefit twice. This gorgeous ornate Josephine mirror is from Brissi.
For your third trick – no giggling at the back – a new knob can prove a treat for your furniture. It’ll transform a tired piece, or give a bespoke twist to something newer. Bombay Duck has this pretty range.
For your fourth trick, take five minutes and rearrange your shelves. The contents of your bookcase don’t all have to stand up like soldiers. Create a visual pause from the rows of spines with horizontal stacks, and your room will feel lighter and airier. This gorgeous lamp is from Original BTC.
For your final trick, use a pop of colour to transform a space. The orange accents in this super-organised home office from Neville Johnson give it a touch of panache. The colour here is part of the furniture, but as you very well know it doesn’t have to be the big buys in your room that give it a lift. A few accessories here and there are all you’ll need.
