It may be easier to read the latest fiction novel on your Kindle but nothing quite measures up to the feeling of excitement when a new book graces your already bursting shelves…especially a Taschen book.
Taschen’s publications come in all shapes and sizes from large tomes to its ‘Icon’ series of small volumes. The company has also produced popular and collectible calendars, address books, and postcards, which is why we know that the book lovers among us will be delighted to hear that Taschen have come to ACHICA this week.
Hollywood fans will love the Audrey Hepburn collection of photographs taken by American photographer Bob Willoughby. This book illustrates the Belgian’s beauty and elegance from her debut to the height of her career.
Willoughby’s work shows her on set, preparing for a scene, interacting with actors and directors.
The Fashion Designers A-Z: Prada Edition is also worth noting. It’s bound in a fabric created by the designer and comes in a Plexiglas box. This copy would make a treasured addition to a fashionista’s book collection and features photographs of over 500 garments selected from The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology ‘s permanent collection. For the Prada Edition, Miuccia Prada selected four classic prints from previous collections and re-printed them on cotton: the feminine ‘hearts’, the Baroque-inspired ‘bananas’, the abstract geometric ‘diamonds’, and a floral reissued for Prada from the 1960 Holliday & Brown archives.Another book that’s very topical is The James Bond Archives. Since Sean Connery emerged as the dashing British secret agent in 1962, Bond has managed to thrill and excite audiences worldwide. The archives of photos, designs, storyboards and production materials is the most complete account of the making of the series, covering every James Bond film ever made, beginning with Dr. No and ending with the most recent hit Skyfall.
Stunning imagery is accompanied with notes from more than 150 cast and crew members and contains previously unpublished photography and artwork. This is one book we ‘d love to get our hands on…shaken, not stirred.
