Just thinking about it may fill you with a warm fuzzy feeling or it might make you want to run and hide, but like it or not, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It’s a great excuse to show the people you love, including yourself (!), just how much you care. Here are five LOVEly ideas for day and night…
Indulge in a pampering session…all for you. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to treat yourself by creating your own personal spa at home. Set aside a few hours to give yourself some TLC.
What you’ll need: Grab some freshly laundered towels (we like the ones from Osman pictured below), run a bubble bath (try White Grape and Aloe Bath Elixir), light a candle (such as Orange Blossom from Di Palomo) and simply relax with your favourite book / gossip mag.*

Invite some friends round and have an indoor picnic. Show your nearest and dearest just how much you love them with a bit of quality time at home. Throw in a few dinner party games and before you know it you’ll be sharing stories about times past and rolling around in hysterics on the floor. Or something like that…
What you’ll need: Kick off your shoes, lay a tablecloth on the floor and have plenty of cushions to sit on (such as these vibrant designs from the Opulence range). Create a laid-back atmosphere with a tapas-style food selection (such as this delicious Sweet Potato and Ginger Rosti recipe) and a good bottle of wine (such as Rioja Garnacha) or two, or three…
Enjoy a movie marathon. Perhaps not the most original idea, but there’s little that can beat cosying down and experiencing a magic cinema moment with someone special. Each choose a movie to watch and set aside plenty of time so you can enjoy both. Check out the Philips HTS2511 Home Cinema Sound System at ACHICA for the ultimate surround-sound cinema-like experience, without the rustling of popcorn at the back.
What you’ll need: Create a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of cushions, beanbags and a cosy throw. Have some popcorn and nibbles to hand – and by nibbles we mean chocolate and plenty of it. We’re currently loving Montezuma’s Valentine’s Truffles Box. If you’re stuck for movie inspiration IMDb has a great selection of movie lists by genre.
Impress with your cooking skills. Restaurants are overrated on Valentine’s Day – after all, there’s no place like home, especially when recipes from Mary Berry’s Winter Cookbook is now easily accessible and available on the iPad. Splash out on ingredients you wouldn’t normally buy, such as Saffron – once worth its weight in gold.
What you’ll need: Kit out your kitchen with some easy to serve from oven-to-table cookware (try Chasseur’s French Cast Iron Round Casserole in Chestnut) – it will save you time serving and save you effort on the washing up! Scatter the table with cheesy flower petals (oh, go on) and add a few candles. Serve Champagne bubbles in Waterford’s Occasions Set Of 2 Anniversary Flutes, pipe a little Michael Buble around the room and one of Mary Berry’s recipes at home will beat any 5-star Michelin restaurant.
Book a surprise getaway for the love of your life. Whether it’s halfway around the world or a cosy English cottage in the Cotswold’s, a surprise romantic getaway is sure to go down a treat.
What you’ll need: It’s all in the detail, so make sure your passports are up to date before you book. Gift up some beautiful new luggage (we love knomo’s Bloomsbury Marseille Carry On Case in Ultraviolet) and Dior sunglasses to present it to your beau with some holiday tickets. There – job done. Who said romance was dead?
