Comfort your home with distressed furniture

Even the most modern of home decor schemes can benefit from a touch of vintage styling. Distressed furniture is an easy way of adding a casual flair that's inviting and also stylish. To get the look, simply pick one or two pieces of furniture that have character and charm  - get this right and you'll create that all important focal point on which to base the rest of your scheme. Here are our top vintage finds on ACHICA today.

Choose something with a bit of colour to make a statement. This Tremoy teal chest (above) has been delicately distressed and adds texture to a neutral palette. The colour works well with accessories in brown wooden finishes, which complement the distressed effect of the chest.

Black finishes look great used in moderation to tie a room scheme together. This classic two-drawer chest (below) would look great on either side of a bed or sofa. The curves give it a feminine softness and the glossy finish adds elegance.

Full of rustic charm, this mirror would look beautiful in the hallway of a classic interior.

Alternatively buy a set of different sized mirrors and display them around the house. The large one would look magnificent fixed to a wall in a living room or bedroom.

Console tables provide a great storage solution with the functionality of a table and are slim enough to fit in awkward spaces in your home such as the hall or in an open-plan kitchen/dining area. Alternatively pop a few perfume bottles on it and hang a mirror above and you'll have the makings of a pretty dressing table.

We'd gladly replace our plain oak drawers for this curved creation (below). Featuring antiqued brass handles and a distressed finish, it's a little touch of elegance for the home.

Use this piece of furniture as a feature in the kitchen - it's perfect for stacking dishes underneath and serving food on top. The unusual design comes with reclaimed timber surfaces and a black painted frame.

And last, but certainly not least, we love this retro-style sideboard that has been finished in natural timber. Why not use it as a coffee table or a storage cupboard for all those bits and bobs that need a home.
