From the catwalk runways of Milan, to the shopping meccas of London and New York, Gucci is synonymous with quality and excellent Italian workmanship. As the brand comes to ACHICA, we shine a spotlight on the luxury fashion house...
It all began when…after being inspired by the luxurious luggage he'd seen while working in hotels all over Europe, Guccio Gucci opened a shop in Florence selling fine leather goods.
Momentum gathered when…together with his three sons, Aldo, Vasco and Rodolfo the Gucci empire expanded in Italy with the opening of a store in Rome and Milan. It was only a matter of time before the green-red-green design became ubiquitous through the country. In 1953 the first Gucci store opened in New York and the brand started crafting other leather accessories including handbags, shoes, and the iconic Gucci loafer.
The mood of the moment…The bag that Jacqueline Kennedy wore was renamed the Jackie. Around this time, the GG logo was applied to most Gucci products and a store exclusively dedicated to clothing opened on 5th Avenue, New York. In the 1990s, American designer Tom Ford joined the brand and took the clothing line to new heights and with it, created a buzz among the Hollywood A-listers.
More than a label, it's a way of life...The company celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2011 and Florence celebrated by opening and dedicating a museum to the fashion house. The Gucci Museo includes installations and exhibitions aswell as key fashion pieces. Today the company has more than 300 stores worldwide and its leather goods are still produced in its Florence workshops.
