In Greek mythology, Hypnos was the personification of sleep; the Roman equivalent was known as Somnus. His twin was Thanatos (???????, 'death'); their mother was the primordial goddess Nyx. Hypnos VI is an allegorical work exploring the myths and legends associated with her through symbolic composition colour and texture.
