These beautiful cotton throws are stitched together by women in India using fabric from their favourite saris. Acting as a 'dowry' for Indian women, these stunning patchwork throws would be taken with them once they were married. The name Kantha comes from the kind of stitch used when making the throws - a Kantha stitch is a traditional technique derived from the way Bengali women mended old clothes. Due to years of washing, the once vividly bright colours of the saris are now mellowed, acting as a constant reminder of the history behind these one of a kind throws. Each one of these delicate throws has a unique pattern and colour variation - you may discover a patchwork pattern across the whole throw or small patches which have been placed to restore the vintage fabric, making each entirely individual.
