Warhol: Limited Editions
From 1962 portraits played a major role in Warhol’s work. The original Marilyn Monroe screen prints were based on a still taken during filming in 1953. The limited-edition screen prints found here were authorised by Warhol to be printed by Sunday B. Morning. Instead of a rubber stamp on the back saying ‘Andy Warhol’ these have a stamp that says ‘Add your own signature here’. Warhol had objected to the fact that the signature had become more important than the art, so here is a little of his irony.
